Today’s prompt: History – What would you cook for your favorite historical figure? Well, our pick for this prompt leans a little more towards celebrity rather than historical, and by historical, we mean famous starting this time last year. Why are we twisting it so far? Well, we spent a large chunk of our weekend binge watching Season 2 of Stranger Things. The first season absolutely blew our minds, so we new that we would need to set aside time to watch it right away. I could go on and on, but we really should be talking about food here on our food blog. Continue reading

Catching Up with Vegan MoFo, day 28: Brunch!
The MoFo prompt for day 28 calls brunch “the under appreciated get-together meal”, but only half that sentence is actually true in our house. A get-together meal? Definitely! Brunch is almost always better when shared with friends, whether it be at a restaurant or homemade brunch shared around your dining room table. But under-appreciated? No way! We LOVE brunch! Brunch has been my favorite meal for my entire adulthood, and I can’t imagine that ever changing. I’m not sure we could appreciate brunch any more than we already do – but we’ll keep trying!

Are waffles the best brunch food? Trick question! All brunch foods are the best brunch foods.
Vegan MoFo, Day 17: Let’s Get Boozy!
Booooooooooze!
We’ve both cooked with alcohol a fair bit (Mike probably more than I), but when it came down to it, there was only one choice for this prompt.

We’ll make heaven a place on earth.
Vegan MoFo, Day 13: Sell Yourself!
If you were going to market a food you make, what would it be?
When I first read this prompt, I knew exactly what I was going to talk about: canned goods. Mike and I started canning farmer’s market produce a few years ago, and I’ve spent most of the past few summers preserving foods (this summer has been the exception). Here are just a few of the things we’ve canned:
Vegan MoFo, Day 10: Secret Ingredient!
Today’s challenge in Vegan MoFo-land is to talk about an unconventional ingredient or product that we use. Well, there is one secret ingredient that we discovered last year that we use just about every day. We’re talking about San Juan Island Sea Salt‘s Popcorn Blend (or “yellow salt” as we like to call it around the Fake Meat and True Love house)!
Vegan MoFo, Day 9: Go Go Gadget
A kitchen gadget we couldn’t live without? I thought a lot about which kitchen tool I’d pick for this prompt, but Mike had one answer and one answer only:
Vegan MoFo, Day Whatever – Far Away

I had been trying to catch up on the blog earlier this week, but the wind got knocked right out of us. We were only a day behind when Election Night rolled around, so I had visions of plopping down … Continue reading
Vegan MoFo, Day 6 – Comfort Food
Well, we’re still a day behind here, but we don’t want to stop bringing you our adventures in delicious food. Today’s topic – comfort food. Sarra was raised in Texas, while I grew up in New York, so we both have different (but equally firm) ideas of what comfort food is. To Sarra, nothing is more comforting than a plate of gravy-soaked carbs and fat, but I usually just want to stick a large quantity of “meat” in between a couple of slices of bread.
Vegan MoFo 2015, Day 1 – Breakfast!
Good morning! Okay, it’s not morning. But it was when I made this breakfast! I thought about doing a fancy breakfast, or an involved breakfast, or a showy breakfast, or even a vegan take on a traditional Americana breakfast (my favorite!), but I ultimately decided to make and photograph (and eat) a usual weekday breakfast. Indeed, if you already follow my Instagram, you’ve seen variations of this breakfast before. Neither one of us has a big morning appetite, and Mike is a big bread-lover, so weekday breakfasts are usually something starchy and an excellent cup of coffee – well, an excellent cup of coffee if you’re me; Mike waits until he gets to work to have coffee, so it’s 1) not good because it’s 2) Starbucks.
